Hello there!
Today, we’ll be introducing some shops that we purchase our frequently worn earrings from. These pieces are just a few that we have and love. We usually wear them on a daily basis, or for special occasions.
Both my friend and I have different tastes when it comes to earrings, but we’re both equally lazy in the sense that it’s tiring to keep swopping earrings in and out. She’s more of the aesthetic kind who will actually bother changing her earrings to fit her mood, while I’m the lazy person who refuses to and just settles for the same stud earrings unless there’re special occasions that I need to attend.
With that in mind, friends, when you purchase earrings for others, please do consider beforehand whether they’ll actually wear them. Are they the “diamonds-are-best-friends” kind, or are they spartan warriors who love their ball studs and are lazy to swop them out?
Both my friend and I are picky when it comes to accessories, which makes it a tad bit difficult for people to get us gifts. Sorry, future boyfriends. For future note, future boyfriends, if you were to buy us earrings, these are where we usually get ours. The both of us believe in cheap accessories, especially if you’re like us, who wear them infrequently. Of course, cheap doesn’t mean that they’ll disintegrate after three uses. We like cheap cheap good good earrings that lasts us long long time.
Here’re the shops that we usually purchase from!
KIMOJ – $$$$
Out of all the stores we’re covering today, KIMOJ probably tops them all in terms of price. However, if you were to purchase them on sale, they’re pretty worth the price you pay as they’re pretty and cheap. For example, my friend bought this piece on sale, at S$6.
My friend commented that the quality was comparable to those of Lovisa’s and Rubi’s but is priced slightly more expensive than usual earrings.
This piece is versatile – it’s subtle enough to wear for work but is cute enough to pair with a cute skater skirt and crop top as well. The design is unique, and reminded her of Serendipity by BTS, which is why she bought it. Reminds me more of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, because y’know, cat sitting on a crescent moon, but- (oh dear, she’s glaring at me out of the corner of her eye) i-it’s still gorgeous! Just not necessarily my style.
Afterall Studios – $$$
Next is this pretty chain piece from Afterall Studios, a sub-brand of Editor’s Market.
Afterall Studios has a wide range of affordable designs that cater to different occasions. They have unique designs for the go-getter ladies out there, but also have a mix of understated pieces that are elegant and can be worn every day. Earring types range from hoops and drop earrings to ear cuffs and studs. They even offer a selection of clip-on earrings for those who don’t have piercings but would still like to add extra oomph to their outfits with accessories.
These earrings may look heavy and sturdy but are lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear. These would be a great accompaniment to jazz up your minimalistic outfit. Simply pair them with a tent dress or casual outfit, and you would be good to go. This was a worthy buy, as it’s been quite long since I’ve had them. They have yet to show any signs of wear and tear.
Lovisa – $$
This was the very first pair of dangling earrings that I’d ever bought for myself, quite some time back. Before this pair, I mainly stuck to studs, because I hated the feeling of earrings brushing past my neck area. As a pair of starter earrings, they did a great job of convincing me to add to my dangling earring collection as they’re light, simple and classy. They’re a staple piece in my wardrobe, and I still find myself reaching for them whenever I have to attend any formal functions or events.
They were cheap too and only cost me S$7 because I bought them on sale. Ya girl loves her cheap accessories. As mentioned before, they’re from Lovisa, which is a jewellery chain store in Singapore typically found in malls. There are plenty of outlets around the country and usually have great discounts for their earrings, which make them super worth the spend.
What makes this pair unique is the adorable dangling design for the back as well. Similar to the piece from Afterall Studios, this pair has a simple and clean design that makes for a great addition to simple, classy and elegant outfits. I’ve worn them for many weddings and formal functions and they’re probably my favourite pair out of all the earrings we’re introducing today.
As they’re my first pair of earrings, they’re pretty old. And rusty. But I still love them and will continue wearing them!
Rubi – $
Everybody knows Rubi. They’ve been around since eons ago, and are the go-to for their cheap, affordable shoes (I personally dislike the quality of items from Rubi and Cotton On, but for the price you pay, you can’t really complain).
This piece is the most ostentatious piece I own. Still pretty mild, but my dressing style’s extremely simple and clean. This pair is green and has sweeping tassels at the end. Whenever I wear this piece, I feel like a majestic horse cantering through lush, green fields, sweeping irritant flies away with its tail.
All jokes aside, this is the pair I go for whenever I feel fancy schmancy. While wearing this piece, I usually try to keep my outfits clean and simple, but snazzy enough to keep up with how loud they are. Think mini-skirts, sneakers, large cardigans and a sling bag.
For loud earrings that serve as statements, I would recommend tying your hair back so you won’t cover the design.
Tips and Tricks for How to Style Your Earrings with Outfits
1. Think of your location
Are you going to a formal work event? Is it a wedding? Is it to a club? Or is it a casual, informal gathering with your friends?
Earring: Afterall Wren Ear Studs
For formal events, it would be great to wear minimalistic pieces that do not distract. It’s important to be professional at events such as these, so we would recommend simple ball studs or simple drop earrings.
Earring: Afterall Mirel Drop Earring
For weddings and more formal meet-ups, we would recommend elegant and classy pieces that would pair well with your outfit. Keep your earrings simple for occasions such as these so they don’t clash with your outfit!
Earring: Rubi 3Pk Luxe Layers Hoops
For clubbing nights, I love big flashy pieces that glint under the lights. They’re eye-catching, and I do love me some good attention. Big flashy pieces are great, especially when you’re in for a night of fun.
However, we would advise you against large hoop earrings – it’s not a pleasant experience when they get caught in someone else’s waving hands on ladies’ night. Been there, done that, not a pleasant experience, 10/10 would not recommend.
Talking about hoop earrings makes me think about the times my mother warned me away from wearing them – “imagine if a bamboo pole gets stuck in them!”, she would say.
Back to earrings – these hoops would be great for when you meet up with your friends. Informal, casual meetings are a great time to wear your loudest earrings. Go wild, honey. Make it a competition. See who can be the loudest. Next time you get the temptation to buy a pair of ostentatious earrings and then you stop and think to yourself – “wait, I shouldn’t buy this because where would I wear them?”, just remember that there will always be somewhere to wear them. So just do it. Get them. Trust me. Regretting not buying something is worse than regretting a purchase. When you buy something and get buyer’s regret, at least you’ll be cradling the purchase while being sad. Hold on, my pitchfork and horns are slipping.
2. Pair them with your outfits
Unless you’re Kim Kardashian, you probably wouldn’t wear snazzy stilettos with say… a gym outfit.
Same goes for earrings.
Ensure that your earrings match your outfit. One great way to do this would be to look at the colours of your clothes and match your earrings to them. Or not. Have an all-black outfit? Go wild with your earrings. Have a loud, colourful outfit? Pick an overall colour from it and ensure that your earrings are the same colour as them.
Personally, I like to match my earrings, bags or shoes, so there’ll be coherency within my outfit.
Also, have a chain belt that you love wearing? Get chain earrings to match them too. Just ensure that they’re the same colour. Don’t mix gold with silver.
3. Get earrings that fit your face
There’re many different types of earrings to purchase. Some can flatter, or some can detract from your face. For example, if your face is oval, try to stay away from dangling earrings, as they can emphasize the length of your face. Go for simple studs or short dangle earrings instead. On the other hand, women with round or heart-shaped faces look great with dangling earrings, as they even out the proportion of one’s face and balances the overall feel of your face.
But you know, ultimately, at the end of the day. You do you, girl. Do whatever makes you happy.
Conclusion
There are thousands of jewellery shops out there in Singapore, and these are just some of the shops we frequent. These pieces, however, are loved by us and would most probably not be in stock anymore.
If you like any of them, go browse and peruse the shops above! We are sure they’ll carry similar designs. And that’s all for today, lovelies! See you next time!
