Kiki Tried: Denzy Gelato

Hello lovelies!

Today, we’ll be reviewing a newly opened café in Bedok – Denzy Gelato.

Denzy Gelato’s first branch opened in Bishan in 2019. Fast forward to 2021 and here we are, at its second branch in Bedok. The café is just two stops away from Bedok bus interchange, so it’s really convenient to get to. It’s opposite Yu Neng Primary School as well, so if you need visual cues on where to alight, look out for Yu Neng Primary School!

After lunch, my friend and I decided to try Denzy Gelato, because we’d heard good reviews on the gelateria. We were blown away by the wide array of unique gelato flavours that they offer, ranging from Yoghurt Speculoos to Coconut Milk, Gula Jawa and Sea Salt.

The gelatos are priced reasonably here, from S$3.60 for a single scoop, S$5 for waffles, and S$3 for coffee. It’s comparable to other ice-cream and gelato stores around Singapore.

Because we’re living in a pandemic (thank you, COVID-19, for being an absolute bummer), we couldn’t try the flavours. However, the staff were still super friendly and helpful, asking us whether we needed recommendations. After debating over the flavours for a good five minutes, my friend and I decided to share a waffle with a scoop of Roasted Bronte Pistachio.

The waffles came freshly made. They were perfectly brown, fragrant, and crisp, unlike many other waffles that I’ve tried in other cafés and ice-cream parlours – those that are round, thick, and fluffy, y’know?

The waffles were light and airy – you can hear the crisp as you cut into them. Usually, before visiting ice-cream stores, we’ll eat a meal. And somehow when it comes to food, we can’t control ourselves, so we’ll be super full.

But when you walk into a gelateria and smell the aroma of waffles, your stomach will abruptly become a bottomless pit even though you’re stuffed and food coma-ing from your meal. Or is it just me…

But well, the good thing about Denzy’s waffles is that they’re not super thick and dense, so the waffles aren’t that heavy on your stomach.

As winners of “Singapore’s Best Gelato 2019”, Denzy’s gelato didn’t disappoint at all. The gelato was extremely smooth and dense, and the pistachio flavour was aromatic and robust. Unlike other stores where the gelato melts easily, the gelato from Denzy didn’t melt fast. Our plate was clean, with not much ice cream smears afterward.

After leaving Denzy Gelato, I was hooked. I kept thinking about it throughout the entire week, and because I loved it so much, I decided to visit it again after having dinner in the area on Saturday.

All the seats were taken when I reached, and there was a snaking trail of people queueing up outside the shop. Being an impatient person, I opted for takeaway.

This time round, I got the Hazelnut gelato (no photo, because by the time it registered in my head to take one, it was already in my tummy). The nutty flavour from the hazelnut was really gao. It was creamy, sweet, and thick.

Honestly, it tasted like Ferrero Rocher. It was so good.

I’m happy that they chose to open up a branch in Bedok. It’s on my list of go-to ice-cream cafés in Bedok now. If you’re in the area for a meal, do head down after to Denzy for some good gelato after!
