Kiki Tried: mellidoni

Hello there lovelies!

We’re back with a review on mellidoni™, a nail wrap brand in Singapore.

Before I begin the review, let’s go a little further back and look at the brand’s origins.

The idea behind mellidoni™ stemmed from the team’s deep interest in Art and Art history - in particular, the evolution of canvases. Founded in December 2020, mellidoni™ celebrates art and aims to bring it to life on an extremely simple and accessible canvas - our nails. Beyond being a simple nail wrap retailer, the mellidoni™ team aims to offer a product space that connects the world to creativity, knowledge, and ideas. Their nail designs are created and curated around central themes such as Japanese Kawara, Peranakan and many more.

So now… let’s dive into the review, shall we?

This is the design that we were given – the New York Art Deco.

Image adapted from: Galarie Magazine

This design is inspired by the One Wall Street, home to what is known as The Red Room - an elaborate mosaic-clad lobby with glass tiles stretching from floor to ceiling in oxblood-red, orange, and gold-leaf. According to mellidoni™, a darker shade of red was selected to give this design a classy finish, whilst its complement of gold glitter was picked to resemble the lobby’s unique gold-leaf glass tiles.

Each nail wrap set you buy comes with a mini nail file, a cuticle stick, and a set of instructions. We would recommend for you to buy the topcoat if you would like a longer-lasting finish. If you intend to wear them beyond 10 days (yes, they last that long!), we also recommend for you to apply a layer of base coat to protect your nails!

To begin, select a nail wrap of appropriate size. Then, remove the transparent protective layer of the sticker and peel off the nail wrap from its backing, pulling from the silver tab. Pro-tip here: always choose a nail wrap that fits slightly smaller than each of your nail.

Align the wrap on nail and gently press to remove any excess air bubbles. You can use the cuticle stick to slowly guide the air bubbles out if you don’t want to use your fingers.

You can then proceed to file down to remove the excess nail wrap (to 90 degrees of your nails). Repeat for the rest of your nails and…

Voila! You’re done! You can apply a layer of topcoat for a lasting finish (which I did). The whole process took me around 25 minutes (‘cause I had to take pictures and all). Instead of sitting at the nail salon for hours, you can get pretty nails within half an hour.

Mama saw me playing with the nail wraps and she said she wanted to try them out. Being the filial daughter, I helped her put on the nail wraps. I didn’t help her put on the topcoat because I wanted to show y’all the difference (but you can’t really tell the difference in the photo). Keep in mind that she’s a housewife – so she prepares dinner for us and tidies our house every day (thank you mama). Let’s put the nail wraps to the test and see if they last!

Here’s how they look like in the beginning! Still fresh and pretty.

Day 3 (14 February 2020, Sunday):

Day 7 (18 February 2020, Sunday):

Day 7 after applying the nail wraps and they’re still going strong! Amazing!

Day 11 (22 February 2020, Monday):

Day 15 (26 February 2020, Friday):

There you go! mellidoni™ nail wraps lasting you for the entire CNY - a solid 15 days! My nails are a little scuffed at the edges, but its barely noticeable. Mama’s nail wraps only lasted for around 7 days due to the housework she had to do. Add that to the fact that I didn’t apply topcoat for her… 7 days are actually pretty long.

With that…. I’m giving mellidoni™ nail wraps a solid 5 out of 5. Easy. Convenient. Time efficient. Perfect for a working adult like me. It’s durable (with a topcoat), and the designs from mellidoni™ are pretty exquisite.

Till next time, lovelies!
