Hello there!
The theme for this month’s posts are “Loco Locals”, which means that we’ll be reviewing fashion, products and food from local Singaporean brands this month. #supportlocal
For this month’s fashion post, we’ll be reviewing dresses from All Would Envy, a local brand set-up in Singapore by Trevor, Matthew and Charlotte. Their designs are distinctively Singaporean and they have many collections featuring prints of Singaporean pastimes and loves. They have a “Say Huat!” collection, which was released for Chinese New Year, “Kueh” collection for kueh-kueh, obviously, “This is Home” collection, featuring famous Singaporean landmarks and a “Let’s Roll” collection which adorably refers to sushi.
I am ashamed to announce that I have already spent S$150 at All Would Envy within a span of a month. I couldn’t help it – their designs are captivating. But please let it be known that I am not one who would spend more than S$30 if I can help it on a single piece of clothing. I am that kind of person who would trawl for hours through Zalora just to find cheap clothes (even better if they’re on sale and have cashback because the stacked discounts often result in one piece of clothing being less than S$10).
You get my drift.
The first dress I ever got from them was a sushi dress from their “Let’s Roll” collection. My friend knows I love sushi – and she loves sushi too, so she sent me a screenshot of the dress and was like… “You want?”
Heck yeah, I want.
And then I thought I would be done – no more shopping for the rest of the month until I got my pay and bam, they release a Kueh collection. At this point in time I didn’t follow their Instagram closely so I didn’t know… and my friend texted me again. “This one?”
Hell yes, this one too.
And then I followed their Instagram and was notified when they re-stocked the mahjong dress from their “Say Huat!” collection. And I mahjong. Quite aggressively at that.
I was sold. Before I even knew it, the dress was in my cart and I was pressing “check-out”. S$47.90, fly bye-bye.
So yes, three dresses, all within the span of a month. Brilliant. I’m ashamed. Sorry ma, if you’re reading this. I swear I’ll save up more from now on. Ooh, but they have free local courier for orders above S$60, so take note of that! Corral your friend to buy clothes with you too.
Because the mahjong dress only came after we took photos of the sushi and kueh dress, it’s not featured in this article. But trust me, I’ll be wearing these three dresses to death. Thank the lords above for bosses who approve of casual wear in the office.
Before we go into talking about the dresses, please note that the colour might be different because of the terrible, no-good lighting that we had.
Sushi Two-Way Slip-Dress
To kick the review off, I’m going to share my height, weight and the size I usually wear. I’m 162.5cm and I weigh 54kg. Yes, the 0.5cm in my height is important. I usually wear UK 6-8 or Uniqlo S. My sizing on Zalora is usually an S to an M.
The sushi dress I’m wearing below is in size S and cost me S$46.90.
What initially caught my eye to this dress was obviously the sushi prints. I usually dislike wearing sleeveless dresses, because I dislike baring my arms to the world, but I obviously made an exception for this dress.
Because look at it. The prints are so cute.
On the website, this dress is touted as a “slip dress that can be worn two ways (front to back and back to front). This means that you can flip it so that either the v-neckline or square neckline is in the front.
It’s made out of 97% polyester and 3% spandex, which means that it’s slightly stretchy. Oh god, this is the best part of this dress – it has pockets! How many times have you bought a dress with the sellers promising pockets only to realise that the pockets they’re talking about is 3 inches deep and can only fit your three fingers comfortably? The worst part is when there is the design for pockets and then you realise – they’re fake pockets. Rage-inducing.
What I like about this dress is that it hides my food baby after lunch extremely well. It’s swishy and loose, providing a perfect cover for any unsightly bumps you might have after eating and drinking.
I’m kind of worried about the straps of the dress though – they seem super thin, and I’m worried that they won’t be able to withstand my chor lor-ness (how rough I am with the dress). I am a pretty rough person who likes to kiao-ka, and generally don’t like to be restricted by my clothes. I guess I have to learn how to be gentler with my dress.
Case in point.
Overall, I would give the dress a 4 out of 5 stars, because it’s out of my personal style. Other than the shoulder baring-ness of the dress, I would wear it to death.
Kueh Tee Sleeved Dress
Kiki was the one who wore this dress. Her height is 168cm and she’s 61kg. She usually wears UK6-8 or Uniqlo M.
Because I bought the Kueh dress for myself, the dress is also size S. It costs S$46.90 as well! The dress still fits her pretty well, but her only complaint that it’s too short for her. “Even if I get a bigger size also no use – their sizing increases by 0.5 inches only,” she said.
Peep the photo of her dying in embarrassment at having to pose.
Whenever she has to tie her hair, the dress has a tendency to ride up. She also mentioned that after wearing the dress for the entire day, she sweat through the lining and it stuck to her skin in an uncomfortable way.
However, she says she likes the design and would buy it. Because this dress is sleeved, I personally would give it a 5 out of 5 stars. Kiki gives it 5 out of 5 stars as well, because she loves it too and would buy it for herself. I think it’s a cute shift dress that can be worn to work or for casual meetings.
What to Pair with the Dress and Where to Wear it to
I’ll probably pair this dress with a pair of comfortable sneakers – Superstars or Air Force 1s will work great with this dress because of their clean design.
Kiki wore this pair of black shoes that she loves – and honestly, it doesn’t fit at all. I see her glaring at me out of the corner of her eye. I’m sorry.
This dress would go great with a pair of mules or sandals! And a casual tote bag, for both the sneaker and mules/sandals pairing.
I’ve worn this dress for casual dinners with my friends – like I said, it hides my food baby perfectly, s’why I love it. I can even wear this dress to work, because thank the lord for bosses who don’t mind casual clothes when we don’t have meetings.
Conclusion
The both of us would give these dresses from All Would Envy a solid 5 out of 5!
Till next time for the next Loco Locals post, lovelies!
