Loco Locals: Freda’D

Hello there!

Today, we’re back to review Freda’D, a local perfumer in Singapore. This month’s theme is Loco Locals, so we’re trying to shed more attention on local stores in Singapore!

I first heard- no smelled, Freda’D from an acquaintance who I was travelling with. She walked by me and I whiffed her perfume and decided I had to get my hands on some. So she told me where she got this perfume from.

Maybe it’s because I’m a frog in the bottom of a well, but before this, I’d only bought perfumes from large chain stores (cough, Sephora, cough). The perfumes that I usually use all come from there – Versace’s Dylan Blue and Eros, Marc Jacob’s Daisy, Chloe’s Chloe. The only truly out of range perfumes that I’d previous bought was Lolita Lempicka, which was originally a gift from my brother.

I’m quite sensitive to smells and smelling good is super important to me. This probably explains my obsession with perfumes. And I must have perfumes that suit my mood. If I’m feeling fresh and ladylike that day, and I’m dressing in that direction, I’ll probably spritz on some Daisy or Chloe. If I’m feeling like a lady boss that day (a very broke lady boss), I’ll use either Dylan Blue or Eros.

Anyways, after the trip, Freda’D was pushed right to the back of my mind. I completely forgot about her as a brand. It was only during an event at Suntec City’s convention hall that I walked by them and decided to impulse buy. The very first perfume I bought was in a transparent bottle – it was a small tube, and I loved it extremely much. The only problem was that there wasn’t a name written on it. So after finishing it, I brought it back to the store in an attempt to get the same smell.

Well, my journey to find that same smell is still in progress. But along the way, I bought several more perfumes from Freda’D – the next one I bought was a big bottle of Romance. They had an offer, so I bought 2 large bottles (gave one to my brother, he’s a sucker for good scents just like I am) and got a scent called Christmas from them in a tester tube.

Romance smells – honestly – like its namesake. She’s musky and sexy and she’s absolutely heckin’ gorgeous. She’s lovely. Comments from my colleagues said that she smelt mature – something that you can wear on a date with potential suitors. She’s not overly sweet but has a depth to it that’s pleasant. For lack of better description, I reckon Jessica Rabbit (Who Censored Roger Rabbit?) would wear Romance.

Christmas, on the other hand, smells crisper and happier. There’s like a pleasant sharpness to the scent that I like as well. Like, if this were a perfume commercial, imagine someone – idk who – walking through the pine forest, fingertips just barely glancing off the tops of snowy bushes and shrubbery. My colleagues commented that this felt like a unisex scent – something that both guys and girls could pull off. I can picture both Elsa (Frozen) and Jack Frost (Rise of the Guardians) smelling like this.

Sensual is the newest addition to my collection and was gifted by my boyfriend because he knows I love perfumes. Honestly, the first spritz of that perfume on myself was kind of jarring, because I thought it was too strong. However, once the perfume settled and as the day passed, its scent was awesome.

Out of the three, Sensual’s probably my second favourite, after Romance, just based on the settling scent alone. It smells like a warm hug from your idol, or something like that. After the smell settles, it becomes this warm aura that envelops you or something of that sort. Like, a slow, gentle, creeping scent that’s amazing. I can imagine Nala smelling like this (don’t deny it, everyone probably had a really inappropriate crush on Nala. I know I did.)

But you know, all these are just my opinions. Perfumes are dependant on person to person, so I brought all my perfumes to the office and put it to the test.

We had a sample size of seven. Out of the seven, five voted for Romance as their favourite scent out of the three. Sensual came in second, with two voting for her. And then we had a double voter who couldn’t pick between Romance and Christmas, so Christmas has a vote too.

Romance wins! Jessica Rabbit wins!

Freda’D’s perfumes are all EDP, which means that the smell lasts for a super long time. Because her essential oil percentage is higher than usual perfumes, even if you sweat in Singapore, your scent will mix with the perfume and you’ll still end up smelling delectable at the end of the day. Freda’D usually lasts me throughout the entire day when I spritz it on in the morning. The best part is after I shower, there’ll still be a faint lingering scent on myself. And then I go to sleep and wake up in the morning and my pillow smells heckin’ amazing and all I want to do is rub my face in the smell.

Sorry, this is getting weird.

Also, what I love about Freda’D’s perfumes is that they come in small bottles as well, so they’re really easy to bring around whenever I travel.

In conclusion, I’ve been using Freda’D perfumes since 2018 and will probably continue purchasing from her. Her scents are awesome, and I love how lasting they are. Out of 5 stars, I would give them a solid 5, because they never fail to disappoint.

Till next time, lovelies!
